5450 -STUDENT TEACHERS

Student teachers from accredited colleges and universities may be assigned for student teaching experience in the Durham Public Schools. The Durham Public Schools Board of Education authorizes the Superintendent or designee to enter into agreements with institutions of higher education that establish student teaching opportunities.

  • 5450.1  Student teachers assigned in the Durham Public Schools shall be subject to the policies, practices, and procedures of the school system.
  • 5450.2  The Superintendent or designee shall remove a student teacher if the student teacher's presence is detrimental to student welfare or school operations.
  • 5450.3 The Durham Public Schools Board of Education wishes to support teacher assistants (instructional assistants) in their efforts to become teachers.  Teacher assistants will be granted up to six months of unpaid educational leave to complete their student teaching requirements.
