4900 -HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT ADVISORY COUNCIL
To encourage active and meaningful communication between the Board and Durham Public Schools students, the board establishes a High School Student Advisory Council. The Council will be composed of a student representative from each high school, who will be elected as part of the annual student council elections. An alternate may also be elected at this time. The student representative will be responsible for attending board meetings and committee meetings of interest and reporting on these activities to his/her school at student council meetings. As with any member of the public, the representatives may speak during the public comment period at school board meetings on issues of concern. The superintendent and interested school board members will attend one joint meeting of all Student Advisory Council members per year to discuss matters of concern and interest to the students.
