3013 - ENERGIZING THE COMMUNITY AND MOBILIZING RESOURCES
3013.1 Purpose
The Durham Public Schools Board of Education (Board) is committed to building civic capacity to ensure the success of all schools and all students in DPS. The purpose of this policy is to articulate a set of standards for which the Superintendent will develop operating procedures and reporting mechanisms to facilitate positive, productive community relations that translate into opportunities and achievement for students.
3013.2 Standards
The Superintendent will collaborate with selected community members, government officials and local agency representatives to develop:
i. A comprehensive system of early childhood education in Durham County focused on successful transitions to school.
ii. A comprehensive system to support the physical and mental health needs of DPS students and employees.
iii. A comprehensive system to extend learning opportunities through high quality after-school programming, extended school programming, and summer learning programs.
iv. A comprehensive system to generate revenue and human resources that enrich the instructional programs in DPS.
3013.3 Oversight
On an annual basis and at a public meeting, the Superintendent shall present to the Board a written report of the State of Our Schools and any recommendations needing action by the Board. The Superintendent will utilize a data gathering method that provides up-to-date measures of the standards listed above that will be compiled in school score cards.
3013.4 Policy Review and Evaluation
This policy will be reviewed every four years by the Board.
