2030 -GIFTS AND BEQUESTS

The Superintendent may accept on behalf of the Board contributions from individuals or organizations for the improvement of the programs offered by the school system under the following conditions:

2030.1 Cash Gifts

A. A donor may designate the money for use in a particular area.

B. The actual objects of expenditures within the area will be determined under the direction of the Superintendent.

C. The title to all supplies and equipment purchased with funds from any contributor will remain with the Board.

D. The Board accepts no responsibility for the continuance of any program financed by contributions beyond the life of the contributions.

E. The Superintendent shall determine the appropriateness of the contribution for the educational program of the school system and may accept or reject the contribution.

F. Upon prior request, the school district will render to each donor an annual financial accounting of the use of the contribution.

G. Individual schools may accept gifts of less than $5,000 with notice to the Superintendent.

H. The Superintendent shall notify the Board promptly of each gift in excess of $5,000. 2030.2 Nonfinancial Gifts
A. The Superintendent must approve all nonfinancial gifts with a value of $5,000 or more, whether intended for one school or all schools.

B. The Superintendent shall be notified in writing of the intended gift and for whom it is intended.

C. The gift shall serve to support or enhance the educational programs and mission of the school system.

D. The Superintendent shall report gifts to the school system quarterly to the Board of Education. 2030.3 Distribution of Literature

As a condition for acceptance of any gift, the Board prohibits the distribution of any materials that are not based on the curriculum defined by the Standard Course of Study developed by the North Carolina State Board of Education or the Durham Public Schools curriculum.
