Health and Safety Spotlight- Online Training!

Durham Public Schools’ Safety and Health Online Training Update March 2010

As of February 2010, Risk Management Services has implemented a district-wide Online Safety and Health Training Program. The program’s product name is SafeSchools and the courses are school-specific, authored by nationally renowned experts and endorsed by school districts nationwide, including several in North Carolina.  Online training of all DPS employees enhances overall safety awareness, reduces staff training and travel time, and provides standardized training for all employee groups.

DPS employees have received training plan assignments and access codes via automated emails from “Safety Training Administrator-safeschool.com,” and a reminder email from Risk Management Services.  This customized and interactive training is web-based.  All employees were assigned three training modules:

  1. DPS Health and Safety Training
  2. Back Injury and Lifting
  3. Slips, Trips, and Falls

In addition to the three recently assigned modules, individual training plans will be assigned for various employee groups, including principals, administrative staff, administrative departmental personnel, bus drivers, child nutrition, maintenance, specialty trades, etc.  This training method has been well received and will allow employees to receive expert training without leaving the worksite or school.
